Stained Glass Cookies are tempting, eye-catching butter cookies that look, just as the name says, as if they were made of glass. Although they are truly spectacular, Mirror Cookies are very simple and quick to make. The base is a classic Shortcrust Pastry, and the glass effect comes from Hard Candies Without Filling or from Chupa Chups lollipops.

These Glass Heart Cookies are usually made for Christmas, but if you like you can also make them for children’s birthday parties. Our tip, though, is to make these Stained Glass Christmas Cookies in festive shapes and use them to decorate the Christmas tree. Of course, Christmas Stained Glass Cookies are also perfect to give to friends and family.

Method

  1. To make the Stained Glass Cookies, take a medium bowl, pour in the flour and shape it into a well. In the center of the flour, place the sugar, the butter previously cut into cubes, the vanillin, the leavening and the egg yolk.
  2. Work the ingredients with your hands until they come together, then keep kneading the mixture. Shape it into the classic block, wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
  3. When the resting time is up, lightly flour the work surface, take the dough and roll it out with a rolling pin into a sheet about 3 millimeters (1/8 inch) thick.
  4. Take two cookie cutters in the shape you like best: they must be the same shape, but one larger than the other. With the larger cutter, cut out as many shapes as you can, then with the smaller one cut out the center of each shape.
  5. Take a baking sheet, line it with previously oiled parchment paper and arrange the shapes on the baking sheet so they are spaced apart from one another.
  6. Chop the candies with a knife and use them to fill the center of the cookies. Bake at 180 °C (350 °F) for about 10 minutes, or in any case until the pastry is golden.
  7. When the pastry is fully baked, take the cookies out of the oven and let them cool. Once they have reached room temperature, remove them from the baking sheet and serve the Stained Glass Cookies. Finally, remember to download our App with exclusive content and fewer ads!
