If you are looking for an appetizer that combines flavor, simplicity and a touch of originality, easy mortadella mousse is just what you need. Imagine a velvety, rich mortadella spread, ready in a few minutes and perfect both for an aperitivo with friends and for an elegant buffet. All it takes is a food processor and a few quality ingredients: mortadella, flavorful but never overpowering, combines with soft cheese and cream to create a truly memorable savory mousse for crostini. No cooking and no waiting, just the wish to bring something special to the table in very little time.

The secret of this mortadella mousse recipe lies in the choice of ingredients and how they are worked: soft, fresh ricotta makes the mixture even lighter and airier, while a sprinkling of chopped pistachios, if you want to make a mortadella and pistachio mousse, adds crunch and a unique aroma that wins you over at first sight. This quick aperitivo recipe becomes the undisputed star of canapés, vol-au-vents, tramezzini (Italian crustless sandwiches) and freshly toasted bruschetta, turning even the simplest occasion into a small celebration of flavor.

Thanks to its remarkable versatility, no-cook mortadella mousse is a great addition to holiday buffets, at Christmas as well as at Easter, and is also a light mousse for buffets in summer or for family Sunday brunches. You can also vary it by using cream cheese for an even creamier result. Do you love savory mousses? Also try the Tuna Mousse for twice the fun. Method

  1. To make the mortadella mousse, cut the mortadella into cubes and put it in the blender or food processor together with the well-drained ricotta.

  2. Add the grated Grana Padano, the two tablespoons of cooking cream, the water, salt and pepper.
  3. Blend everything for a few minutes until you get a creamy, smooth, lump-free mixture. If it is too thick, add another tablespoon of cream and keep blending.

  4. Taste the mousse and adjust the salt and pepper to your liking.
  5. Transfer the mousse to a piping bag fitted with a star tip, or to a bowl.

  6. Use the mousse to fill puff pastry canapés, tramezzino bread canapés, toasted bruschetta or vol-au-vents, or to decorate crostini. Alternatively, you can spread some on fresh bread or use it to dress a pasta dish or fill a savory pie.
  7. Let the mousse rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving for the best texture. Finally, remember to download our App with exclusive content and fewer ads!

Variations and Alternatives

Light version: replace the cream with whole-milk Greek yogurt for a lighter, slightly tangy mousse. With pistachios: add chopped Bronte pistachios during the final blending for a crunchy contrast. With cognac: add a tablespoon of cognac to the mixture for a more refined, sophisticated flavor. Aromatic: add a pinch of grated lemon or orange zest for a fresh citrus note. With sweet and sour peppers: add finely chopped sweet and sour peppers for a more complex flavor. Spicy: add a light sprinkling of mild chili pepper or smoked paprika for those who love bolder flavors.

Tips

For a particularly creamy and flavorful mousse, use top-quality ingredients, especially Mortadella Bologna PGI or a Venetian mortadella with pistachios. Make sure the ricotta is well drained so the mixture does not turn out too runny. While blending, check that no lumps remain. If you want an even lighter, airier texture, you can whip the mousse with an electric mixer after making the base cream. For an extra touch of color and flavor, garnish with chopped Bronte pistachios or with small pieces of fresh mortadella. You can also add a pinch of lemon zest or mild chili pepper to customize the flavor.

Storage

Mortadella mousse keeps in the fridge for up to two days, covered with plastic wrap. Storing it any longer is not recommended because ingredients such as ricotta and cream could turn sour. It is not suitable for freezing.
