If you’re looking for a fish and vegetable dinner idea that wins people over at first sight, salmon and spinach strudel is just what you need. Picture a golden crust of puff pastry, fragrant and slightly flaky, hiding a creamy, flavorful filling that can turn a simple dinner or a buffet with friends into a memorable occasion. The salmon strudel recipe is in fact very easy to make: just choose good salmon fillets, fresh or smoked depending on your taste, pair them with spinach freshly sautéed in a skillet, and wrap everything in a casing of store-bought puff pastry, perfect if you want maximum results with minimum effort.

This savory spinach and salmon strudel is remarkably versatile. You can serve it as an elegant appetizer at a seafood dinner, perhaps cut into thin slices as refined finger food, or as a complete one-dish meal with salmon and spinach, with a fresh salad or grilled vegetables on the side. If you’re short on time but don’t want to sacrifice flavor, you can use frozen spinach, but nothing beats the aroma of freshly picked spinach.

If you love party appetizers, this easy spinach and salmon strudel is one of the best savory strudels for a buffet: lovely both warm and at room temperature, it will make all your guests happy. And if you like trying tasty variations, we also recommend the Savory Green Apple and Salmon Strudel, for a surprising combination, or the Salmon and Zucchini Strudel.

Puff pastry salmon strudel is always a great classic, but we also suggest you try the Salmon in Puff Pastry, the Salmon-Stuffed Potatoes, or the Spinach, Salmon, and Cottage Cheese Crepes to keep bringing new, flavorful pairings to the table.

Method

  1. To make the Salmon and Spinach Strudel, start by washing the spinach carefully. Pour a little olive oil into a skillet, add the garlic clove and the still-wet spinach, and season with salt and pepper. Cook the spinach over low heat, adding a splash of water if needed to help it cook. Once cooked, take the spinach out of the skillet and let it cool, so it doesn’t absorb too much oil and cooking liquid.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry and prick the center with a fork. Place the spinach in the center, lay the salmon fillet on top, and season with salt to taste. Carefully close the puff pastry as you would for a classic sweet strudel. Brush the top of the Salmon and Spinach Strudel with the beaten egg, make diagonal cuts, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  3. Bake the strudel in an oven preheated to 180 °C (350 °F) for about 30 minutes. Take it out of the oven, let it cool slightly, and cut it into small slices: your Salmon and Spinach Strudel is ready to serve. Finally, remember to download our App with exclusive content and fewer ads!
