Pecan Pie is a rich pie of American origin, usually made for holidays such as Christmas, Easter, or Thanksgiving. Similar to an Italian crostata, a jam tart, Pecan Nut Pie is made of a shortcrust pastry shell with a filling of pecans and maple syrup.

Perfect served either warm or cold, Pecan Pie has a rather unusual origin: it seems it was invented by French cooks living in New Orleans. These chefs learned about pecans from Native Americans and decided to use them in a dessert called Transparent Pie, which would later become the famous Pecan Pie.

Method

  1. To make the Pecan Pie, combine the flour, salt, sugar, eggs, and softened butter cut into cubes in a bowl. Work the mixture until you get a smooth dough, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rest in the refrigerator for about an hour.

  2. After the resting time, take the dough and roll it out with a floured rolling pin until you have a sheet a few millimeters thick.
  3. Line a tart pan with the rolled-out dough, pressing it down well so that it adheres perfectly. Trim off the excess and put the crust in the refrigerator to rest until you are ready to fill it.
Pecan Pie, step 3: lining the tart pan with the pastry
  4. Set aside about 25-30 pecan halves and coarsely break up the rest. In a large bowl, mix the softened butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and maple syrup. Add the broken pecans as well and stir to get a smooth mixture.
Pecan Pie, step 4: mixing the pecan and maple syrup filling
  5. Take the crust out of the refrigerator and fill it with the mixture you just made. Top with the whole pecans, arranging them in whatever pattern you like, and bake in a preheated oven at 190 °C (375 °F) for 25 minutes.
Pecan Pie, step 5: topping the filling with whole pecans
  6. After this time, cover the pie with aluminum foil so that it doesn’t get too dark and continue baking for another 10 minutes. Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, and serve the Pecan Pie. Finally, remember to download our App with exclusive content and fewer ads!
