Orange Punch is a flavorful winter drink that is usually served during the Christmas holidays and is truly quick and easy to make at home. Made with rum, orange juice and zest, cinnamon and star anise, Orange Punch can also be made in an alcohol-free version. And you can serve Orange Punch hot or cold, as you prefer.

Hot Orange Punch is ideal for serving to guests during the Christmas holidays, especially if they drop by in the evening. But punch is also perfect for warming up instead of the usual herbal tea, or for serving after dinner as a digestif.

If you love hot alcoholic drinks for winter, you have to try the Vin Brulé (Italian Mulled Wine) as well. If you’re looking for homemade liqueurs to serve guests during the holidays, we also recommend the Mandarin Liqueur and the White Chocolate Liqueur. Now let’s see how to make Orange Punch.

Method

  1. To make the Orange Punch, put the sugar and water in a small nonstick saucepan, stir well, then add the orange peel, star anise, and cinnamon. Cook over low heat until it comes to a boil, then keep cooking for another 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and add the orange juice and rum. Stir well, remove the solids, and serve the Orange Punch. Variations and Alternatives

If you like, you can replace the rum with the spirit of your choice: for a lighter Orange Punch, we recommend Aperol. You can also replace the orange with mandarins or lemon. For an alcohol-free Orange Punch, simply replace the rum with the same amount of orange juice or apple juice.

Tips

Orange Punch can be enjoyed hot or cold, but if you want to serve it the traditional way, simply pour it into a large bowl and ladle it out.

Storage

Orange Punch keeps in the refrigerator for a few days in an airtight container.
