Mushrooms mark the arrival of fall, even though cultivated ones are now sold all year round. In fact, though, when we talk about Mushroom Recipes we think of the cold season, and that’s why we think our Mushroom and Brie Crostini are perfect, among many other occasions, to serve as a Christmas or New Year’s Eve Appetizer. The reason is very simple: not only are they really good, they are also very easy to make.

All you need to do is make some Sautéed Mushrooms, that is, cook Button Mushrooms in a Skillet, and serve them on a slice of toasted bread topped with rich, melty cheese. Our suggestion is to use Brie, whose flavor goes perfectly with these Button Mushroom Crostini. Another thing to keep in mind is that these Mushroom Appetizers are also perfect for anyone on a vegetarian diet, solving the problem if you have guests who follow this diet or who simply don’t eat meat.

Among the other Button Mushroom Recipes, we suggest you try the Stuffed Button Mushrooms, the Creamy Sautéed Mushrooms, also perfect for topping Mushroom Bruschetta, or the extra-tasty Fried Mushrooms.

Method

  1. To make the Mushroom and Brie Crostini, first clean the mushrooms. Button mushrooms are perhaps the easiest to clean because, once the end of the stem is removed, they can even be washed under running water, unlike other varieties. Either way, if in doubt, you can check our guide on How to Clean Mushrooms.
  2. Then cut them into slices about half a centimeter (1/4 inch) thick and set them aside for now.

  3. In a skillet, heat the oil with the garlic clove, then add the mushrooms and start cooking them over high heat, seasoning with salt and pepper.

  4. After 10 minutes the mushrooms are ready. All that’s left is to flavor them with a pinch of chili powder and the parsley, chopped with a knife.
  5. Cut the baguette diagonally into slices 1 cm (3/8 inch) thick.
  6. Place a slice of Brie half a centimeter (1/4 inch) thick on each slice of bread.

  7. Top with a heaping spoonful of sautéed mushrooms and, as they are ready, place the Mushroom and Brie Crostini on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Tips

We recommend making the Mushroom and Brie Crostini at the last minute. You can, however, get ahead by cooking the mushrooms, which you can keep in the fridge until you need them.

Storage

Mushroom and Brie Crostini keep out of the fridge for half a day at most. After that, store them in the fridge and eat them within a couple of days. In that case, we recommend reheating them briefly in the oven before eating.
