Bringing a showstopping, tasty appetizer to the table has never been easier than with our Lettuce Cups with Shrimp and Avocado. Very simple to make, they rely on a delicate balance of flavors wrapped in a crisp lettuce shell.

They are also perfect for anyone with a gluten intolerance, and quite easy to make. The pairing of shrimp and avocado is a winner, thanks above all to the added seasonings.

Method

  1. To make the Lettuce Cups with Shrimp and Avocado, start by cleaning the shrimp. Follow our tips on How to Clean Shrimp so that you end up with just the meat.
  2. Heat the oil in a skillet, then add the cleaned shrimp and the chili powder. Sear them over high heat for two minutes per side, until they have browned, then deglaze with half of the lemon juice. Season with salt and set aside, taking them out of the hot skillet so they don’t keep cooking.
  3. Halve the avocados, remove the pits and, after peeling them, dice the flesh. Toss it with the remaining lemon juice to keep it from darkening.
  4. Arrange the lettuce leaves on a serving platter. Fill them with a spoonful of diced avocado and a few shrimp. Serve immediately, finishing with a few fresh cherry tomatoes cut into chunks. Finally, remember to download our App with exclusive content and fewer ads!

Variations and Alternatives

Like the idea of Lettuce Cups but have vegan guests? Replace the shrimp with diced cherry tomatoes dressed with a drizzle of oil and some chopped fresh onion: you’ll get a truly amazing sort of guacamole.

Tips

You can cook the shrimp ahead of time and set them aside until you assemble the appetizer. The avocado, however, should be cut at the last minute because it darkens easily when exposed to air.

Storage

For the reasons above, we don’t recommend storing the Lettuce Cups. If you do have leftovers, keep them in the fridge in an airtight container and eat them as soon as possible.
