Mushrooms in Side Dish Recipes hold a very important place, because their flavor makes them a good match for meat or fish main courses. Greek-Style Button Mushrooms, for example, are one of the many ways to cook Stewed Mushrooms, and with their bold flavor they will win you over at first taste.

To earn this name, Greek-Style Button Mushrooms are made by adding some flavors typical of that cuisine: first of all Cherry Tomatoes, which give flavor to the Pan-Cooked Button Mushrooms, then Olives for a savory touch, and finally White Wine to deglaze everything and create the lovely sauce that makes this Button Mushroom Recipe an ideal sauce for pasta too. In short, you get the idea: once you’ve tried Greek-Style Button Mushrooms you won’t be able to do without them, but keep in mind that you can also make this dish with other kinds of mushrooms, or use frozen mixed mushrooms, perfect to keep in the freezer for emergencies.

Among the other Button Mushroom Recipes to make as a side dish, we suggest you try the Stuffed Button Mushrooms, perfect as an appetizer too, the tasty Fried Mushrooms or one of the ultimate mushroom side dishes, Creamy Sautéed Mushrooms.

Method

  1. To make the Greek-Style Button Mushrooms, start by trimming off the end of the mushroom stems and cleaning the caps with a damp cloth. Slice them, not too thinly, and set them aside. Wash the cherry tomatoes too and cut them in half.
  2. In a skillet, heat the oil with the garlic clove, the bay leaves and the rosemary; then add the cherry tomatoes and cook for a few minutes over high heat before deglazing with the white wine.

Variations and Alternatives

As mentioned in the introduction, you can also use this tasty sauce to dress pasta: a sprinkling of Parmigiano or a few cubes of feta will make it even more flavorful.

Tips

To speed things up, we suggest buying button mushrooms already cleaned and sliced, which you can easily find at produce stores or in the supermarket. To best release the aroma of the bay leaves, we recommend breaking them before adding them to the oil.

Storage

Greek-Style Button Mushrooms keep in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. We recommend reheating them in a skillet before eating.
