Crostini with Salmon and Capers are an appetizer that’s perfect for any occasion, and for us they’re an absolute must over the Christmas holidays, for the big Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve dinner. Crostini with Salmon and Capers are also great for a buffet-style aperitivo thanks to their small size.

A delicate yet flavorful taste, easy preparation (even ahead of time) and the fact that there’s no need to cook them make these crostini a clever recipe we definitely recommend trying.

To make this simple seafood appetizer you’ll need, besides a baguette or similar bread (we recommend trying them with Black Bread), some cream cheese such as Philadelphia, dill for fragrance, smoked salmon (more flavorful than regular salmon), and finally black olives and capers to decorate.

Other crostini that are ideal to make and serve as an appetizer include the Crostini with Brie, Salami and Caramelized Onions, the Crostini with Shrimp and Salmon Cream, also made with seafood, and the Crostini with Apples, Cheese and Honey, perfect for anyone following a vegetarian diet.

Method

  1. To make the Crostini with Salmon and Capers, start by cutting the baguette into slices 1 centimeter thick. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and put them under the broiler for 3-4 minutes, until crisp.
  2. Chop the dill, setting a little aside for decoration, and mix it into the Philadelphia, then spread a teaspoon of the mixture on each crostino.
  3. Cut the salmon into not-too-wide strips and arrange them in a swirl on the bread, then finish by decorating with sliced olives, well-drained capers and a small sprig of dill. Finally, remember to download our App with exclusive content and fewer ads!

Variations and Alternatives

If you don’t like the taste of smoked salmon, you can replace it with unsmoked salmon or opt for slices of swordfish.

Tips

The great thing about these crostini is that you can make them ahead and keep them in the fridge. Remember to take them out at least half an hour before serving so they come to room temperature.

Storage

Crostini with Salmon and Capers will disappear fast. If you do have leftovers, though, put them in the fridge in an airtight container and eat them as soon as possible.
